Independent Contractor – Fractional Staff Accountant (Remote)

We are seeking a detail-oriented, reliable Fractional Staff Accountant to join our team on an independent contractor basis. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working with multiple clients in a flexible, remote environment. You will provide day-to-day accounting support, ensure accurate financial reporting, and assist with month-end close for a variety of small to mid-sized businesses. As a fractional contractor, you will work with multiple accounts/projects based on agreed-upon hours and deliverables, maintaining clear communication and high-quality standards. Responsibilities • Record and reconcile daily financial transactions in accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar). • Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and supporting schedules. • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense tracking. • Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations. • Support month-end and year-end close processes. • Generate financial statements and management reports for review. • Maintain accurate, organized financial records for audit and compliance purposes. • Collaborate with client contacts, CPAs, and internal team members to resolve discrepancies and answer questions. • Provide process improvement suggestions for efficiency and accuracy. Requirements • Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in public accounting or working with multiple clients. • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. • Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (required); familiarity with Xero, Bill.com, Gusto, or other accounting tools a plus. • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual-based accounting. • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management. • Ability to manage multiple client accounts independently while meeting deadlines. • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal). • U.S. work authorization and ability to work as an independent contractor (1099).
